Too bad Mrs. Meyers is already married...cause I love her.

"...after raising nine children I know a little something about cleaning."
-Mrs. Thelma A. Meyer
We Med Heds shy away from no topic here...not even the dirty ones. In this case we're talking about cleaning supplies. While not exclusive in Med Hed HQ, Mrs. Meyers is an outstanding line of cleaning supplies that we use just about every day.
Originally turned on to the laundry detergent by the significant other, I quickly grew fond of a wide range of Mrs. Meyers products of which I'll be discussing here.
I think what makes Mrs. Meyers so singlularly unique is their use of garden fragrances, two of which I grow myself, lavender and lemon verbena. Culled from garden fresh herbs and flowers, these cleaning supplies have a nice fresh scent without any hint of chemical smell to them. These are cleaning products that not only work, but you can feel good using knowing that they are made of natural ingredients, are biodegradable, cruelty-Free, and (very important to me) do not contain synthetic anti-bacterial or antiseptic ingredients.
You'll find Mrs. Meyers products scattered throughout the house, but here's a list of my favorites and where we use them.

Counter Top Spray/All Purpose Cleaner

I keep a spray bottle of the Counter Top spray in the kitchen and bathroom, along with a bottle of All Purpose Cleaner. The spray has a nice fresh scent to it and I use it to wipe down non-glass surfaces, like our kitchen island, which is a treated wood top. I also use it to wipe down our granite countertops, however, I use another product from a different company to polish them (another blog entry to come).
It it is a great general surface cleaner.

As for the All Purpose Cleaner, it is essentially a concentrated version of the surface cleaner. A couple of tablespoons and some water quickly fills up the counter spray bottles...less waste and less ordering. It also works well as a bathroom sink and toilet cleaner. Just add some piping hot water to a few capfuls in a bucket.

Window Cleaner

Because of the vegetable oil base of some of the other cleaners, they aren't really suitable for cleaning glass surfaces...and can actually streak them up pretty good. This is where the glass cleaner works well. It does an excellent job of cleaning glass and doesn't have that chemical alcohol smell.

Stainless Steel Cleaner

One of the major detractions of having all stainless kitchen appliances, is that they are far from stainless. Unlike certain woods, and dark granites, stainless appliances show smudges much faster than other surfaces. On a daily basis I might just wipe down these areas with the window cleaner, but when I want a nice shine and polish I pull out the Stainless Steel cleaner. Made from olive oil and surficants from plant sources, essential oils of lavender and orange, and a bit of silicone, this cleaner does a great job of bringing the shine back, without any nasty petroleum distillates.
Best of all...you only need a couple of sprays to get the job done.

Laundry Detergent
As I mentioned, my first introduction to Mrs. Meyers was their laundry detergent...and over a year later, it is still the only detergent I buy. It not only does a great job of cleaning clothes, but clothes come out smelling fresh and clean. Since it is concentrated, you don't need that much. And if you like, you can use their dryer sheets, and stain removers. I even use their Ironing Spray in our professional steamer as a linen water. It can really freshen up clothes that have been sitting in the closet too long and just need a quick wrinkle removal.

You can buy Mrs. Meyers from a number of locations, including their website, but I generally buy my supplies in large quantities from Drugstore.com. I often get a good discount and likely get free shipping.
