Curva Chrome Framed Patio Chair
We moved into our new place in October, and while most of the country was getting cooler, San Francisco was experiencing a lovely extended summer. At the new place we now had two patios, but no patio furniture to enjoy.
We decided not to wait until the spring to get some furniture and instead went looking for special bargain deals at all of the local stores. We visited Room and Board and DWR as well, hoping to find some late season special deal on something amazing...but to no avail.
Being the design lover, but bargain shopper that I am, I went and took a look up on Overstock and found these Curva chrome framed chairs.

They were certainly at the right price (off-season $41), so as with many things you buy over the internet, I took a chance and ordered 2 of them (I selected Creme versus the other interesting colors). They come flat packed, Ikea styled...ready for assembly. Seemingly like a pain in the ass to assemble, simply invite some friends over, give them beer and a tool...and pow!
The chairs look great! They have a very modern appearance, are strongly constructed, and handle the elements well. They are also surprisingly comfortable...the chairs sit relatively low but are also quite wide...thus an idea chair for lounging.
We liked the chairs so much we ordered two more.
I will say that the chairs are a lot less "creme" than the photo might lead you to believe. Still, very attractive. Cleaning is a breeze. A little laundry soap, a scrubby sponge, and a spray hose is all it takes to take off the dust and occasionally muddy paw prints.

We've been enjoying the chairs regularly since October, but recently we visited Room and Board again to take another look at what's on tap for this year. Once again we didn't find anything that jumped out at us, but we did run across a chair that seemed to run in a similar aesthetic vein, The Mariposa.
The Mariposa is a modern interpretation of the classic directors chair. Unlike the Curva chair, the Mariposa actually folds up, which is a really nice feature. However, the chair just isn't as comfortable...and at a price tag of $199...I can buy two Curva chairs (now selling for $79).

I'm the guy that put these babys together, it wasn't too much of a pain in the ass, definitely worth the beers.
Actually, if anyone else wants some assembly work done let me know, I work on a 2 beers per chair minimum.
